Herrsching is the first Fairtrade Municipality in Upper Bavaria and one of the more than 800 Fairtrade Towns worldwide, including London, Rome, Brussels and San Francisco.

In Germany, the Fairtrade Towns campaign is financed by TransFair e.V. and supported by many prominent sponsors.

In the Herrsching Fairtrade Municipality, a total of ten retail shops as well as three cafes and restaurant offer Fairtrade products. Furthermore, five public institutions, including the Catholic parish and the Nature and Youth Centre Wartaweil, serve Fairtrade products to guests and employees.

The first Fairtrade Town in Germany was Saarbrücken, the first one in Bavaria was Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz. Other Fairtrade Towns in the Free State of Bavaria are Freising, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Sonthofen, Burghausen and many more. Munich, Landshut and Ingolstadt are currently applying for the title.
